Prior to selecting a protective garment, you will need to know how the garment will be used: Is the environment wet or dry? Are you protecting against chemicals, particulates, vapors, or a combination thereof? Are the materials you're protecting against hazardous or nonhazardous? Once you know this, you can select a garment that provides the needed protection and is cost-effective.

DuPont Tychem refers to a family of chemical protective garments that are used for a variety of hazardous environments, ranging from light liquid splash and industrial applications to radioactivity and situations where chemical warfare agents are handled. These garments are used in applications where you need more than a light-duty chemical protective suit but less than a heavy duty chemical protective suit.

Tychem SL garments provide effective and economical protection against a range of chemicals for workers engaged in petrochemical manufacturing, waste management, industrial plants, hazardous material response, emergency medical response, paint spraying, radioactive environments, environmental cleanup and other emergency services. Tychem SL garments are commonly used in domestic preparedness for protection from biohazards, toxic industrial chemicals, and some chemical warfare agents. They have a moderate level of abrasion resistance. Tychem SL is made from Saranex film laminated to Tyvek fabric. Tyvek provides protection from a variety of materials, including dust, dirt, and hazardous particulates like lead, asbestos, and mold. An antistatic, low-lint material, Tyvek is strong and difficult to tear; however, it can be easily cut with scissors or other sharp objects. Tychem SL garments are vailable in a variety of garment and seam types to provide improved protection against hazardous particles and liquids.
